Campaigners from Carerwatch, their friends and supporters worked tirelessly over this year to promote Pat’s Petition which called on the government to “Stop and review the cuts to benefits and services which are falling disproportionately on disabled people, their carers and families.”
The petition closed last month with over 62,000 signatures and was followed with an open letter to Liam Byrne (Shadow Minister for Work and Pensions) calling on the Labour Party to strengthen its opposition to government welfare reforms.
The Labour Party has subsequently agreed to host an Opposition Day Debate in Parliament. This means the debate will take place in the Chamber at the House of Commons with Ministers and front benchers as well as back benchers.
The theme of the motion for the debate will be the Pat’s Petition demand that the government stop and review the cuts to benefits and services and assess their cumulative impact on disabled people, their carers and families.
This is excellent news and we now need your help to make sure this debate has the greatest possible impact on the Government. The debate will probably be held in January 2013 and we will announce the exact date as soon as it is confirmed.
Please write to your MP and ask them to attend and raise your concerns about Welfare Reform. We will post an online action that you can use to email your MP and template letters as soon as they become available.
The Hardest Hit 
I hve wrote to my MP i know all this welfare reform [disabilty] is all wrong this government only think of the rich and we at the bottom end have to pay for their mistakes it would be very human to leave us disabled people alone its not our fault and not fair that we have to pay with virtually our lives lets hope that we will be heard in government and they have a big U turn
This is supposed to be a caring nation who send billions overseas to countries who have more than us and where does that money come from, the weakest of British society. We will soon be a third world country due to jumping in the same ditch and helping others out as they will soon turn their backs on us and we will remain in the ditch
